Hello,

In the early 1980’s, while I was teaching acting at the Goodman School of Drama, California State University-Long Beach (CSULB), and California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) I developed some ideas for books to supplement the class work. Two were plays, SHAKESPEARE’S LOVERS and SHAKESPEARE’S WOMEN, which created opportunities for acting students to be able to dive into the language of Shakespeare in the classroom as well as develop performance pieces for an audience.

MASK CHARACTERIZATION is a workbook for an acting class which uses contradictory masks to help acting students deepen their response to characters. It is a day-by-day lesson plan which serves both teachers and students.

FIVE CHEKHOV PLAYS is my most recent translations of the work by my beloved boyfriend, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. The five plays include IVANOV, SEAGULL, UNCLE VANYA, THE THREE SISTERS, and THE CHERRY ORCHARD. They were developed with the help of a Russian to English translator, Allison Horsely, and are crafted for the American contemporary actor with love and admiration for Chekhov.

I have recently re-examined these books and realized that they are vibrant and useful for today. I have decided to bring my chickadees home to roost, and make them available through one website.

Read them, use them, enjoy them, and for heaven’s sake produce the plays!
